Andean Region SME Training Concluded with Self-Reflection for Improving Cyber Resilience

The three-day training for small- and medium enterprises in Andean region concluded with participants’ presentation on how to improve their business resilience.

Final day of the training focused on putting the knowledge gained throughout the training into practice and actionable steps. Participants presented their businesses’ current cybersecurity starting point, explained key risks and loss scenarios and outlined practical roadmaps for improving cyber resilience. Presentations brought together topics covered during the three-day training, including cybersecurity risk management, data protection, Zero Trust principles, cyber hygiene and supply chain security, while translating this theory into concrete organisational priorities and implementation steps.

Participants also demonstrated their knowledge on incident response as they emphasized the understanding of cyber incidents are increasingly relevant for SME-s. Several participants highlighted the importance of preparation and the need to establish clear response procedures even an incident occurs. In their presentations, they demonstrated knowledge on basic cyber hygiene measures such as multi-factor authentication, regular backups, Zero Trust approaches and raising cyber awareness among employees to reduce the impact of cyber threats even without extensive resources.

Presentations demonstrated a clear take-away: the importance of continues improvement and organizational readiness. Through presentations and discussions, participants demonstrated how organisations can use practical, easy and achievable measures to strengthen their resilience, improve incident response capabilities and be better prepared for evolving cyber threat landscape as cybersecurity is an ongoing process requiring regular evaluation, adaption and cooperation.

Training, conducted by EU CyberNet experts Mari Seeba and Milena Patiño Villa, was organised cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Andean Community and the Delegations of the European Union to Bolivia, Colombia,  Ecuador and Peru.
