LAC4 Supports Guyana’s National Cybersecurity Strategy Review: Strengthening Cybersecurity Governance

As part of its continued support to its members, LAC4, a project funded by the European Union, has recently completed a review of Guyana’s draft national cybersecurity strategy (NCS), following a request from the National Data Management Authority (NDMA). The review supports Guyana’s efforts to  strengthen cybersecurity governance, strategic planning and national cyber resilience.

“Supporting Guyana’s national cybersecurity strategy review forms part of LAC4’s commitment to strengthening cyber resilience, strategic governance and cybersecurity policymaking across Latin America and the Caribbean. We hope these findings will support policymakers, government ministries and national institutions responsible for Guyana’s digital transformation and national security, contributing to the country’s ongoing efforts towards a more secure and resilient digital future.” – Leonardo Ortega, LAC4 Partnerships & Technical Engagement Manager

“We appreciate the considerable effort invested by LAC4 and the team in reviewing Guyana’s draft National Cybersecurity Strategy and in facilitating the discussions throughout this engagement. We are particularly encouraged by LAC4’s overall assessment of the strategy and LAC4’s recognition of the collaborative approach taken in its development. The recommendations regarding the operational implementation framework, tactical cybersecurity assessment, sustainable governance arrangements, stakeholder integration and implementation sequencing, will be carefully reviewed and considered as part of our next steps.  The review process has provided us with a useful external perspective and practical recommendations that will help strengthen both the strategy and its implementation approach.” – Muriana McPherson, Cybersecurity Director, National Data Management Authority of Guyana.

Over the course of past months, LAC4 and EU CyberNet expert Roeland van Zeijst together with the LAC4 team provided an independent expert assessment of the latest draft strategy. It focused on the strategy’s completeness, practicality and effectiveness as well as its alignment with best international and European cybersecurity practices.

Guyana’s authorities will now continue the process of finalising the national cybersecurity strategy. LAC4 stands ready to continue supporting Guyana as it moves from strategy development towards implementation.
