Supporting Cyber Resilience of Electoral Processes in Colombia

LAC4 supported information security and cyber resilience for electoral processes in Colombia with a three-day training for electoral authorities and relevant stakeholders to strengthen the capacity to protect electoral infrastructure, manage cyber risks and respond to incidents during elections ahead of Colombia’s presidential elections at the end of May 2026.

Training addressed the evolving cyber threat landscape surrounding electoral processes, including attacks against infrastructure, unauthorized access to sensitive data and disinformation campaigns. As the electoral systems become increasingly more digitalized, they face growing cybersecurity risks that affect integrity, transparency and trustworthiness of elections.

Over the course of three days, participants explored international standards, good practices and practical approaches for strengthening their cybersecurity posture. Discussions focused on identifying critical assets and vulnerabilities within electoral infrastructure, improving preparedness for cyber incidents and enhancing coordination between electoral authorities and national cybersecurity institutions.

The training also provided participants with tools and frameworks to better understand global and regional threats affecting elections and to strengthen incident response capabilities in the event of election-related cyber incidents. Through interactive sessions and case-based discussions, participants examined how resilience measures and coordinated response mechanisms can help safeguard democratic processes and maintain public trust.

Training was organised within the framework of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance together with Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of Colombia. Training was conducted by EU CyberNet expert Jan Rada.
