LAC4 Steering Committee Met in Brussels

LAC4 Steering Committee gathered this week on 27 November in Brussels at the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the European Union to take a stock on past activities and discuss future actions.

LAC4 team gave an overview of main achievements in 2025: 

  • Four new members: the Bahamas, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador; 
  • 60+ activities across LAC region; 
  • 3000+ direct beneficiaries; 
  • Notable engagements:  
    • port cybersecurity training in January in Ecuador;  
    • SME training for Central America in March in Guatemala; 
    • Support to the ITU/GIZ Her CyberTracks programme’s expansion to the LAC;  
    • CyberWeek@LAC4 2025 in the Dominican Republic; 
    • Bi-monthly LAC4 members-only webinars. 

Moreover, the Committee reviewed the project progress in 2025 and work plan for 2026. LAC4 team highlighted several pending requests for policy and strategy advisory, critical information infrastructure protection (CIIP) support, communication and response plans, cyberdiplomacy, SME support in cybersecurity, but also increasingly growing cooperation and burden-sharing with partner countries in organising events.  

Building on the success of 2025, LAC4 team looks forward to 2026 with several engagements already in planning in addition to growing the number of LAC4 member countries among the Caribbean and Central American countries and partner organisations. LAC4 intends to continue with proven and successful engagements like CyberWeek@LAC4, 0ct0b3rf35t, Her CyberTracks, SME trainings and to extend the use of cyber hygiene platform among member countries, but also build cyber capacities among local municipalities and governments, women and youth. 

LAC4 Steering Committee consists of representatives of EU institutions and EU-funded CCB projects.

Over the course of four days, more than 40 speakers from more than 20 countries took the stage to exchange knowledge with more than 150 participants from more than 30 countries for building regional cyber resilience and strengthen cooperation between LAC and European countries.

The second day of CyberWeek@LAC4 2025 dove deep into threat and organizational resilience and cross-border cooperation. Through hands-on workshops and national case studies, participants examined how to strengthen detection capabilities and adapt to evolving regulatory and operational demands.

The first day of CyberWeek@LAC4 2025 revolved around improving technical skills and capabilities with case studies from the region and Europe as well as explaining the importance of communications when mitigating often very technical threats.
