The Women in CyberTech Camp@LAC4 covered key areas of incident response and cybersecurity operations, including computer security incident response team (CSIRT) operations, open source intelligence (OSINT), cyber threat intelligence, digital forensics, malware analysis and threat hunting. Participants put their knowledge into practice through a table-top incident response exercise, visited the National Cybersecurity Centre of the Dominican Republic (CSIRT-RD) to observe cybersecurity operations and discuss real-world incidents and participated in a final capture-the-flag (CTF) challenge to test technical skills developed throughout the programme.
The Incident Response track of the Her CyberTracks initiative brought together female cybersecurity professionals from across Latin America and the Caribbean to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing and capacity building in cybersecurity. Through intensive workshops, practical simulations, site visits and mentorship sessions, participants developed the skills and confidence necessary to play leading roles in their national and regional cybersecurity ecosystems.
Her CyberTracks: Women in CyberTech Camp@LAC4 was led by EU CyberNet instructors Sille Arikas, Sandra Bardon and Priska Pietra.
Background
Her CyberTracks initiative delivers targeted cybersecurity capacity-building activities for women through a five-month structured online training curriculum, concluding with sub-regional in-person meetings. It combines technical and policy-focused cybersecurity training, networking opportunities and tailored mentorship with senior leaders in the field. Following the training in Santo Domingo, participants continue the programme through a number of online sessions, further developing their technical and communication skills and building on the knowledge and connections gained throughout the programme. The programme will conclude at the end of October.
Her CyberTracks: Women in CyberTech Camp@LAC4 gathered 17 women from Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago and Uruguay representing a diverse range of cybersecurity backgrounds from information security and IT engineering to policymaking and risk management.
Her CyberTracks LAC edition is funded by the European Union and German Federal Foreign Office (FFO). The LAC edition is co-implemented by the Latin America and Caribbean Cyber Competence Centre (LAC4), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
