Training was designed to support maritime hubs, ports and government agencies in their digital defense capabilities and improving their ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from cyber incidents. With the maritime sector playing central role in the Bahamas’ economy, connectivity and supply of essential goods, strengthening the resilience of its digital infrastructure serves as an important part of national preparedness. 

Training programme addressed key areas of maritime cybersecurity, including digital transformation and cyber resilience, port technologies, protection of critical maritime infrastructure, supply chain security, insider threats, practical risk management and implementation of security standards. It also focused on strengthening organisational capacity, incident response and coordination between relevant stakeholders, while facilitating the exchange of international best practices. 

A key component of the training was a tabletop exercise that allowed participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training and test their preparedness in a simulated cyber incident. The exercise focused on decision-making, communication and coordination, helping participants identify practical ways to strengthen response arrangements and cooperation during a cyber crisis. 

Training was led by EU CyberNet maritime cybersecurity expert Lisbeth Laurie and strategic cybersecurity expert Dan Ungureanu. It brought together cybersecurity and IT managers and representatives from relevant Bahamian maritime and public-sector stakeholders, including port controllers and security officers, creating an opportunity to strengthen national capacity and exchange experience on addressing the evolving cyber threat landscape. Training was organised in cooperation with the Bahamas’s National Computer Incident Response Team, the Ministry of Innovation and National Development and the Port Department of the Government of the Bahamas.
