Training on Information Security and Cyber Resilience for Electoral Processes in Colombia

the LAC4 Centre, within the framework of the EU–LAC Digital Alliance cooperation, is implementing a training program in Colombia aimed at strengthening the capacity of electoral authorities and relevant stakeholders to protect electoral infrastructure, manage cyber risks, and effectively respond to cybersecurity incidents during elections.

Electoral processes are fundamental to democratic governance and political stability. While digitalization improves efficiency and transparency, it also introduces cybersecurity risks that may threaten the integrity of elections and undermine public trust in democratic institutions.

In response to the growing threats—such as attacks on infrastructure, unauthorized access to data, and disinformation campaigns—it is essential to strengthen the resilience of electoral systems through the adoption of international standards and best practices.

The training aims to provide participants with the ability to:

  • Understand the cyber threat landscape affecting elections at global and regional levels
  • Identify critical assets and vulnerabilities within electoral infrastructure
  • Apply international best practices and cybersecurity frameworks
  • Develop incident response capabilities for election-related cyber incidents
  • Strengthen coordination between electoral authorities and national cybersecurity institutions
  • Promote EU–LAC cooperation in electoral cybersecurity
