Building Training Capacity: LAC4 Concludes a Series of Successful Train-the Trainer Workshops in Guatemala

LAC4 in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to Guatemala and the Presidential Commission for Open and Electronic Government of Guatemala conducted a series of train-the-trainer workshops in Guatemala, equipping participants with critical skills to further raise awareness of cybersecurity and cyber hygiene.  

Workshops, which took place in Guatemala City and Quetzaltenango, engaged representatives from public sector, civil society, private sector and indigenous communities to address the unique cybersecurity challenges faced by organisations and companies alike, and strengthened their ability to raise awareness and implement best practices within their organisations and communities.

“With Guatemala experiencing rapid cross-societal digitalization, cybersecurity challenges have become pressing issue. As a result of these workshops, participants are expected to be able to build local training capacity and pass on their knowledge to improve cybersecurity resilience across sectors.” – Merili Soosalu, LAC4 Programme Lead. 

Workshops built up from the fundamentals of cybersecurity and cyber hygiene and identifying threat to learning to deliver effective trainings and applying best practices from the region.  With theoretical knowledge combined with hands-on practical exercises, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of common cybersecurity threats and their potential impact to their communities as well as they gained skills to train others on cyber hygiene and safe online practices. In addition, participants learned to evaluate and improve cybersecurity habits within their organisations and communities.

The completion of these workshops marks a significant step in Guatemala’s cybersecurity capacity building. With newly trained trainers now equipped to lead cybersecurity awareness efforts, LAC4 and its partners look forward to continuing their support for the country’s digital transformation and cyber resilience initiatives.

Strengthening Cybersecurity Journalism in Latin America and the Caribbean

LAC4 in cooperation with Agency for Electronic Government and Information and Knowledge Society of Uruguay (AGESIC) and the Delegation of the European Union to Uruguay organised a training for journalists in Montevideo, Uruguay from 2 to 3 March 2026. The training, titled “Journalist on the Frontline: Reporting Safely and Accurately on Cyber Incidents” and led by EU CyberNet Experts Carlos Leonardo and Diogo Carapihna, focused on strengthening journalistic capacity among Uruguayan media representatives and journalists to improve understanding, covering and reporting on cybersecurity issues. 

LAC4 Enhances Jamaica’s Cyber Resilience with Advanced Cybersecurity Training

LAC4 organised an online advanced cybersecurity operations training for Jamaica’s public sector cybersecurity professionals from 23 to 26 February. Training focused on building rapid detection, analysis and response capabilities by leveraging open-source tools for threat detection and response.
